Tony Windsor Memorial Trophy

Tony Windsor was an Evertonian who was a founder member of Welshpool Fossils FC. He had a long football career playing for Waterloo Rovers, various clubs in Mid Wales and Llansantffraid where he won the Welsh cup in 1996.

He also coached successful youth teams in Welshpool and in his final years was a tireless fundraiser for Charity. His hard work raised thousands of pounds for McMillan Nurses, The Severn Hospice, The Lingen Davies Cancer Appeal, Cancer Research and Waterloo Rovers FC who he helped fund their new ground improvements.

The Tony Windsor Memorial Trophy started on Friday the 24th of May and as we approach the half way stage of the Quarter Finals, there are six teams left with a realistic chance of winning the Cup.

The tournament started with a bang after Llan City and Newtown drew a pulsating match three all. The match was played in Welshpool and Llan City advanced into the Quarter Finals after coming through a nervy penalty shoot out.

The Quarter Final stage started last Friday at Park Hall Stadium and there was no stopping the Welshpool Fossils. The reigning Shropshire and Mid Wales Veterans League Champions beat The Black Lion by six goals to two. Shortly after, Ellesmere Rangers thrashed Trewern United six nil, to secure their place in the Semis.

The tournament will resume this Friday with two big matches at Park Hall Stadium. First up are Wrexham Retro and Llan City and the winners will face The Welshpool Fossils in the Semi Final. The match will kick off at 7:00pm.

The next match pits local rivals Whitchurch Alport with Shawbury Untied Veterans. Ellesmere Rangers await the winner of this game and will be eager to find out who win the match that will kick off at 8:30pm.

The Semi Finals will take place on Friday the 21st of June and will once again be held at Park Hall Stadium.

Current Champions Welshpool Fossils will aim to retain the trophy and will hope to compete in The Tony Windsor Memorial Trophy Final on Sunday the 30th of June. The final will once again be played at Park Hall Stadium, Oswestry.
