WALFORD AND NORTH SHROPSHIRE COLLEGE/TNS FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP
The New Saints and College partners at Walford and North Shropshire College have recently signed a new three year agreement aimed at further enhancing their successful football Scholarship.
The TNS Football Scholarship (now in its tenth year) offers students the opportunity to train and play competitive football whilst studying at Level 2 or 3 in the BTEC Diploma in Sport – Walford and North Shropshire College Principal, Andrew Tyley, describes this as “best of both worlds.”
The new partnership agreement brings Club and College closer together, with all coaching sessions delivered by qualified coaches employed by TNS. The tiered structure of the Scholarship promotes players with different levels of ability, with the “elite” squad playing against some of the best College teams in the country. All players benefit from excellent coaching and access to TNS’ facilities at The Venue.
Mike Harris, Chairman of TNS sees the Scholarship as an important investment in young players of the future. “We have built up an excellent relationship with Walford and North Shropshire College over many years. The blend of coaching and education we can offer makes this an outstanding opportunity for young people to promote their footballing ambitions whilst also gaining a first rate qualification. We are always looking or new talent and, over the years, the Scholarship has helped a number of players secure a professional contract.”
Andrew Tyley, College Principal, is delighted to have TNS more closely involved in the coaching for the Scholarship. “Our partnership with TNS gives us access to facilities and expertise which gives us the edge over many other College football academies. Thanks to this new agreement, we can see the Scholarship growing from strength to strength.”
Recruitment to the 2014/15 TNS Football Scholarship is already underway. Prospective players will be able to find out more at the Oswestry Campus Open Event on Thursday 17 October from 5.30 pm to 8.00 pm.
Representatives from TNS will be attending alongside members of the College’s Sports Department.
