The Walford and North Shropshire College team claimed the County Cup with a superb display against a good Thomas Telford school team.
In an evenly contested game, both teams played some terrific exciting football but struggled to create any clear cut chances.
The WNSC side looked the more likely to score on the counter attack after soaking up some pressure with relative ease due to some great defending. Steve Evans’ disciplined side made it hard for TTS to create anything meaningful.
The deadlock was finally broken two minutes before the half time break. The ever impressive Ryan Kershaw scored another excellent free kick which flew into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.
The WNSC outfit started the second half really well and within minutes of the restart, the advantage was increased. James Jones rose highest to head home a corner kick and made it two nil.
Walford and North Shropshire College continued to defend really well and always looked in complete control. TTS had a final push during the last ten minutes but Greg Fletcher was alert enough to thwart them and produced a great save with only a few minutes left to ensure a clean sheet for the Champions.
Evans was delighted with his side and said, ‘I am delighted with my players. The lads keep improving with every game. We changed our shape tonight due to injuries and for the players to adapt to what I asked them to do was really pleasing, as we hadn’t practiced it before. I thought they were superb. They were disciplined defensively and never really looked troubled but looked dangerous on the break. It’s a great competition to win and great for WNSC to win it’.
The winning squad was made up of Stewart Evans, Greg Fletcher, Connor Rogers, Ryan Pryce, James Jones, Jordan Wells, Ryan Kershaw, Dylan Jones, Fisnik Hajdari, Ben Richards, Mark Murch, Liam Walker, Liam Edwards, George Mitten and Rhys Cooper.
