Wilde Looking to the Future

After signing a contract extension with The New Saints, Mike Wilde was happy to have concluded talks and signed on the dotted line.

The powerful forward scored an impressive 17 goals last season and is now looking forward to competing in the UEFA Champions League.

The former Chester City man admitted that he had been thinking about signing a contract extension with the club for a few months and was understandably delighted to have finally secured the new deal, ’It was something I wanted to do as the season was finishing and it was something that was in the back of my mind. I wanted to extend my stay at the club and I am now looking forward to getting on with it. I am really looking forward to the UEFA Champions League and it is a great feeling, knowing that I am here for a number of years but short term, my main focus is on Europe and who we are going to be drawn against.’

Wilde won the WPL Golden Boot in the 2012/2013 season but despite being in good form in front of goal this season, the 30 year old lost out to Chris Venables, ‘It would have been nice to keep the run going but it wasn’t to be. You can never pre-empt what is going to happen during the season and during the first year I started slowly and ended up flying. This year I think it was the other way round. I still consistently got goals throughout the year but I will be setting myself new targets next season. The main thing is that the team achieves and does well in both the league and the Cup competitions.’

The TNS number 18 scored what proved to be the winning goal in the FAW Welsh Cup Final against Aberystwyth Town at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium and revealed that was his probably his favourite moment of the season, ‘The Cup Final springs to mind because it is fresh in the memory. The way we won it was brilliant and there was a good celebration afterwards.’
