The New Saints enter the UEFA Champions League Qualifying Round 2 draw this afternoon and they have a one in six chance of drawing Scottish giants Celtic FC, after both clubs were drafted into Pot 2 with former European champions Celtic seeded and TNS unseeded.
The 2014/15 UEFA Champions League season kicks off with the draw for the first and second qualifying rounds at 11:00am today – streamed live on UEFA.com – with the seeding pots now confirmed.
The other clubs that the Saints could face are AC Sparta Praha (CZE), FK Partizan (SRB) – although their participation is subject to a UEFA CFCB decision – Debreceni VSC (HUN), ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK) and FK Ventspils (LVA).
Although Celtic would be the best opponents to draw from a financial and PR view, the possibility of drawing Ventspils, who Airbus drew with twice in the Europa League last season, would be the Saints best hope of progression.
In the draw, the ball containing the seeded clubs from one group are placed in one bowl, with balls for the unseeded clubs in the same group positioned in another.
A ball is taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they are shuffled. The first team drawn plays its first match at home, against the second team drawn.
