The New Saints beat Aberystwyth Town by six goals to three thanks to an inspired Mike Wilde, who scored five goals.
The match was a replay of the 2014 FAW Welsh Cup Final and it was TNS who started the better of the two sides. Both Ryan Fraughan and Ryan Edwards went close to breaking the deadlock within the first 20 minutes.
However, The Saints opened the scoring midway through the first half thanks to Wilde. The striker kept his cool and slotted in from eight yards out to give his side the lead.
Four minutes later, Wilde completed his brace. The powerful striker was put through by Fraughan and the former Chester City man made no mistake from just inside the box.
A minute later it got even better for the Birkenhead born striker. The TNS number 18 climbed highest and directed his header into the top corner to complete a brilliant 30 minute hat-trick.
The goals continued to flow but this time it was the home side that managed to get on the score sheet and reduce the deficit.
However, the half ended with Wilde adding his fourth goal to ensure that Craig Harrison’s side went into the break leading by four goals to one.
The second half started in a similar fashion and directly from kick off, Wilde scored his fifth of the day to restore The Saints’ four goal advantage.
The wonderful Wilde was replaced by Greg Draper midway through the second half and the Kiwi added a sixth goal late on in the game.
However, the home side scored two late goals with only minutes left to play to ensure that the match finished TNS six, Aberystwyth Town three.
The TNS starting line up was Paul Harrison (C), Simon Spender, Chris Marriott, Steve Evans, Connell Rawlinson, Sam Finley, Aeron Edwards, Ryan Edwards, Ryan Fraughan, Scott Quigley and Mike Wilde.
