The New Saints beat a ten man Bala Town side by three goals to nil at Maes Tegid.
Second half goals from Ryan Fraughan, Sam Finley and Aeron Edwards, secured the points for Craig Harrison’s side and kept them at the top of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League table.
The game sprung into life after twelve minutes when Ashely Morris brought down Greg Draper in the penalty box and conceeded a penalty, after a Bala defender had played a back pass far too short. The referee sent the goalkeeper off but substitute Craig Vernon, saved Matty Williams’ penalty kick with his first touch. The Bala ‘keeper dived to his right and kept out the The Saints’ number ten.
The Saints controlled the game and used their extra man to their advantage but couldn’t seem to find a way through a stubborn Bala defence.
Midway through the first half, TNS did finally have the ball in the back of the net but Scott Quigley was ruled out for offside.
A minute later and Finley found himself with just the Bala ‘keeper to beat but after an excuisite first touch, the midfielder shot straight at Vernon.
In first half stoppage time, Fraughan’s pinpoint through ball picked out Finley who smashed over whilst under pressure to ensure that the sides went into the break level.
The Saints finally broke the deadlock nine minutes into the second half. Draper was once again brought down inside the box and this time Fraughan stepped up. The former Tranmere Rovers winger coolly found the bottom corner to give his side a deserved lead.
Harrison’s side kept on searching for more goals with both Finley and Williams having long range shots from the edge of the box.
However, the second goal did finally arrive thanks to Finley. The energetic midfielder struck an unstoppable shot into the top corner from just inside the area to all beat seal the points for the Welsh Premier League Champions.
Moments later, Mark Connolly fired a powerful effort just over the bar as Bala looked for a way back into the game.
With fifteen minutes left, Edwards killed off the contest with his first and The Saints’ third goal of the game. Edwards latched onto a cross from Williams and beat Vernon from close range to give The Saints a three goal advantage.
TNS nearly added a fourth in the 88th minute but Mike Wilde fired over after being expertly picked out by fellow substitute, Alex Darlington.
