The New Saints’ Scott Ruscoe was named Welsh Premier Clubman of the Year at the FAW Awards evening which was held at St David’s Hotel in Cardiff on Monday 6th October.
Ruscoe, who has made over 250 appearances for the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League Champions over the last 14 years ago, has also taken part in more European matches than any other WPL player.
The presentation was made by Cheryl Stibbs from Official Sponsor Vauxhall and Jonathan Ford, FAW Chief Executive.
Scott Ruscoe commented, ‘I am very pleased to have been presented with this prestigious award, particularly as the event was also attended by the manager of the national side and his staff. Having already played nearly 400 games in the Welsh Premier League, and hoping to take part in many more, I have had a fantastic time at The New Saints and particularly enjoyed our many European ties.’
Ruscoe added, ‘As a boyhood Liverpool fan, the matches against them in the Champions League were probably the highlights of my career closely followed by the games against Manchester City and RSC Anderlecht. Another proud moment was playing in my 30th European fixture earlier this summer when I came on against SK Slovan Bratislava.’
The TNS number seven now divides his time between playing and heading up the club’s youth development programme. He is confident that The Saints can once again retain their title this season, ‘Things are going well and I think we can do it again.’
On what was a great night for Welsh Football, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale was voted the 2014 FAW Player of the Year.
Ben Davies won the young player of the year, with Ashley Williams winning the club player of the year.
Jess Fishlock also won the women’s player of the year and Angharad James retained the women’s young player accolade.
