The New Saints has found a place at the heart of its community this season by teaming up with British Heart Foundation (BHF) in the fight against heart disease.
The table topping Welsh Premier League side warmed up for their recent home game with Prestatyn wearing the charity’s red t-shirts as a pledge of collective support. The game also saw a collection for the BHF to help raise funds as part of the FAW Welsh Premier League commitment to support Wales’ heart charity this year.
Gilbert Wooley, Media and Communications Officer at The New Saints said: “We’re delighted to be working with BHF and play our part in their partnership with the Welsh Premier League. We hope to raise as much money and awareness as possible to help fund the charity’s work in the fight for every heartbeat.”
Cardiovascular disease (heart conditions and stroke) kills around one in four of us, in Wales alone there are almost 125,000 living with their daily battles with a heart condition. For over 50 years the BHF has pioneered research that’s transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. This work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease.
Warren Appleby, from BHF in Shropshire said: “Everything we do at BHF is intended to make a real difference to people’s lives. Whether we’re providing care and support to patients or researching potentially life-saving treatments, we never forget how many people are counting on us to succeed. Support from the Football Association of Wales and the clubs in the Welsh Premier League like The New Saints makes a big difference in raising the vital funds and awareness needed to help us continue with our life-saving work.”
