Academy Round Up 13/14 Dec 2014

Under 16s

TNS 4-1 Bala (11/12/14)

Goal scorers : Andy Vale, Will Doherty, Izaack Lambert and James Harrison

Yesterday saw the boys face probably their hardest test yet against Bala. The boys were up for the game, following remarks made by opposition players in the run up to the game, and the already fierce yet respected rivalry between the 2 sides. Bala took the lead after a mazy run by the dangerous Sean Sanchez, but we were disappointed that he was able to travel as far as he did. We scored 2 goals off 2 set plays from Andy Vale and Will Doherty, and went in at half-time 2-1 to the good. Second half saw a much more open game, with the boys getting into their free flowing football, and with some meaty challenges flying in from both sides, it threatened to spill over. Fortunately nothing happened as a result and we managed to score 2 more goals through Izaack Lambert and James Harrison.

Steve Benyon added “Really pleased to get 3 points against a very strong and well organised outfit in Bala and against my good friend Dewi. Yes we didn’t hit the heights that many expected tonight but still managed to turn it on when needed. Sunday sees the boys compete in their second day of futsal. Merry xmas and a happy new year to all the 16’s players and parents and also all of the academy players and parents from all squads”.

Afterwards, Jason Brindley said:  “Pleased with efforts shown by all the boys today. The standard of Futsal by all teams this week and last has been top notch, credit must go to Jay from Connahs Quay for organising it. We have mixed it up, taking half the squad last week and the other half today, all the boys have done themselves proud for putting us in this fantastic position. It will be really hard to pick a single squad of players after how we have done but I am confident that they will all do well if called upon. Today was good, played well. Jack Vale deserves a special mention for being out of this world, ridiculously good. But all the boys played well. However, we need to get up for every game, after the Airbus game we didn’t turn up against Connahs Quay and got punished, very sloppy. So a lesson learnt. Overall though a good day. Looking forward to picking up in the new year.”
