Crewe 6 – 4 TNS
Team: Sam Gregory-Cork, Mikey McDonnell, Calum Matthias, Kelson Cunnah, Harvey Cunnah, Jack Davies, Ollie Sumner, Ieuan Jones-Wellstead, Cody Tomlinson, Tom Wolstenholme.
Saturday morning saw TNS U9’s travel to Crewe for their first game of the New Year, and in which the game was played in tough conditions.
TNS got the game underway playing straight into the blustery wind and from the off, it was clear both teams struggled to play the football they are capable of in these hard conditions. However with about 5 minutes gone TNS found themselves 1-0 up with a goal from Ieuan Jones-Wellstead. With TNS in the lead and trying to settle into the game they were caught in possession and found themselves level within a few minutes of taking the lead. As Crewe levelled they started to play the better football and dominate possession, and just before the end of the 1st quarter Crewe took the lead, 2-1!
2nd quarter saw TNS with the advantage of the wind but were unable to benefit from it and couldn’t make the crucial pass to get any attempt on goal, and all of a sudden were 3-1 down. With some great saves from Sam Gregory-Cork, he was able to keep the team in the game and then with some great footwork and ball control, Ieuan dribbled past several Crewe defenders, shifted the ball onto his right foot and struck it low into the goal, 3-2! Crewe then gave themselves a 2 goal cushion again after some scrappy defending from TNS and Crewe bundled the ball over the line, 4-2 at half time!
Going into the 3rd quarter, the lads were assured they could get something out of the game if they could play the football they are capable of, however after a great strike in off the post from a Crewe player, TNS were 5-2 down.
The last quarter expectedly opened up with TNS creating more chances than their opposition, but again TNS couldn’t take their chances and after 5 minutes of madness Crewe found themselves 6-2 up after rounding the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into an empty net. TNS then dominated the last 10 minutes of the game playing some of the best football their coach Rob has ever seen them play and were rewarded with a goal when after some great first time passing starting from the back saw Jack Davies strike the ball towards goal and with a slight deflection saw the ball creep into the corner, 6-3. Then, with some time left, Ollie Sumner threaded a great ball through the Crewe defence and with Harvey Cunnah running from his own half onto the ball found himself 1v1 with the goalkeeper and with a great low strike under the keeper, TNS were able to finish with another goal. Full time result 6-4 to Crewe.
With some positives to take from the game, we are now looking forward to playing in a futsal tournament and fixtures against Bala, Newtown and also Airbus all in the next few weeks.
Under 10s (10 Jan 2015)
After three wins, two draws and only one defeat the Saints can be very proud of their mornings work.
First up was Bangor City which ended in a 1-1 draw with a well taken goal from Adam Tirebuck.
The only loss of the day came next against the old foe Gap Connahs Quay, the Nomads, which ended up 2-1 after a very close game…saints goal was scored by Ralfie Challinor.
Game 3 was the other Nomads side. This game ended 0-0 after some very good goal keeping from both sides.
From here on in the Saints started their slick passing game. In the next match against Colwyn Bay they ran comfortable winners with a 3-1 score line. Josh Evans helped himself to a brace and Adam Tirebuck picked up his second of the day.
Next up was Flint Town United. In this game the boys won 2-1 with another from Josh taking his tally to 3 and a sweet strike by Ryan Lloyd securing the win.
With confidence high the men in green took on Rhyl who always pose a tough test no matter what format we play. After a hard fought game it was probably the pass of the day from Adam Tunnadine who set up Ed Moore to finish coolly and round off a cracking day.
Afterwards, Coach Tim Allen said “It’s great to see the boys improving at Futsal with the movement and passing proving to be vital in getting the positive results, especially when breaking and using the overload technique of passing which they have worked hard on, not panicking and carving out guilt edge chances to score. Well done boys very impressed.”

After five draws, one win and a loss it was an in different morning for the saints, with the boys having enough for two teams taking it in turns to play, the first three games were all draws, finishing 0-0, 2-2 and 1-1 with TJ Burns getting 2 and Josh lock getting 1.
It wasn’t till the 4th game that we registered a win with Josh Lock and a superb strike from Rhys Edwards giving the boys a well deserved 2-0 win,
The only loss of the day came next with a 2-1 defeat to Bangor City, which in the context of the game seemed strange as the amount of efforts from the saints should of resulted in a more favorable score line. Tom Potts was on hand to score his first of the day.
1-1 was the score of the next encounter against Newtown with TJ Burns adding another to his impressive tally.
The final game of the day was the best for the spectator with the boys serving up a 4-4 after going behind at every stage it was very commendable of them to come back and would probably of finished off the day with a win if not for the time running out. Well done all round gents.

Afterwards, coach Jason Brindley said:
“I’m Really pleased with the performance today of the team in this Futsal competition. We have added Futsal to our weekly programme and it has definitely shown in the way we have played in the 3 different days. I have taken different boys each week to try and give all the boys a chance to perform. Each player has done themselves proud in putting us in this position and picking 1 squad is extremely difficult.
Focusing on today, we played some very good teams but we kept the ball really well and were clinical infront of goal. To have 8 different goal scorers shows how dangerous we can be. Our movement and ball retention was fantastic. This group of players have really come together recently, they have blossomed as a team in both 11 a side and Futsal. I’m happy to be in the playoffs, the boys understand that if we are to go even further we need to push on and work even harder.”

Manchester United 7-1 TNS
Goal scorer: Cal Graybrook
Line Up: Niall Sinfield, Harry Coles, Izaack Lambert, Ste Naisby, Jack Lloyd, Lewis Burns, James Papirnyk, Cal Graybrook, George Minshall, Jack Jones, Josh Baldwin

Yesterday saw the boys face Manchester United Under 16’s at the AON training complex. The facilities, hospitality and pitch once again was top class! The boys were a real credit first half managing to limit United to few chances, but unfortunately we conceded 2 sloppy goals. Half time saw numerous changes, which in all honesty affected the flow of the game and we crumbled to concede a further 5 goals in disappointing fashion. Cal Graybrook managed a consolation at the end with a neat finish.
Coach Steve Benyon said “Fantastic experience with the boys to play against the Champions, and felt we certainly competed and were disciplined first half. Disappointed that players did not listen to instructions and played their own game, and not with the elements, but on the whole lots of positives and more importantly lots to work on”.
