TNS Pay Tribute to Michael Hughes

William Michael Hughes, more affectionately known to all in football circles in Wales and throughout Europe as ‘Spider’ brought a smile to many faces with his undoubted passion for his beloved club and the game in Wales. The New Saints President was a great ambassador for the club and enjoyed many memorable trips around Wales and further afield in Europe following the club he supported for many many years.

Everyone connected with The New Saints Football Club sends their condolences to his wife Anne, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at this very sad time. ‘Spider’ was instrumental in establishing the club during it’s Llansantffraid days into what it is today and worked tirelessly to ensure that the club he loved so much was always able to compete with the best. He often talked about the clubs triumphant victory over Barry Town in the Welsh Cup Final at the ‘old’ Cardiff Arms Park as well as memorable games against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Anderlecht to name but a few. A true gentleman, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Amongst the many messages, the clubs Chairman and owner Mike Harris was the first to pay tribute and pass on his condolences and said ‘A very sad day as our President and my good friend Michael Hughes passed away this afternoon you will always be missed and remembered. Ian Williams, the clubs Chief Operating Officer said ‘Michael ‘Spider’ Hughes will be sadly missed by everyone involved with The New Saints, a true friend who loved the club’.
