The New Saints of Oswestry Town secured their place in the FAW Welsh Cup Semi-Final after beating Gap Connah’s Quay by one goal to nil at Deeside Stadium thanks to a goal from Scott Quigley.
The Saints started brightly and nearly opened the scoring when Kai Edwards’ excellent cross ended up with Alex Darlington volleying over from ten yards out.
With the conditions making it difficult for both sides, many passes were kick out of play as neither team could get control of the game.
Midway through the first half, Jamie Reed went through on goal but his effort was palmed out by Terry McCormick after Adrian Cieslewicz had released the forward.
Moments later and The Saints managed to break the deadlock. Quigley cut in from the left and fired in an unstoppable strike into the bottom corner to give Craig Harrison’s side the lead.
Reed then had another chance but was once again thwarted by the home ‘keeper as TNS continued to push forward.
The second half failed to get going as both sides made a number of mistakes to ensure that the game struggled to flow.
Harrison sent on Jamie Mullan in search of a second goal which would clinch a place in the Semi-Final and within minutes picked out Cieslewicz who volleyed over from ten yards out.
Mullan was again involved seconds later when he picked out fellow substitute Mike Wilde, but the powerful forward shot straight at McCormick.
With only two minutes remaining, Jack Chambers volleyed over after TNS had failed to clear a dangerous corner.
The Saints then played out the rest of the fixture without any worrying moments to secure a place in the FAW Welsh Cup Semi-Final.
