Under 16s – Sat 7 March 2015
TNS 16’s travelled down the M56 to play Manchester City at the impressive Ethiad Stadium complex.
Manchester City 3 TNS 0
The TNS squad was taken for today’s game by Jason Brindley and Steve Monk.
City started the game and went straight on the attack. Harrison won the ball back and passed out wide to Rhys and his pass found Josh in space. He beat his marker and his cross was cut out at the back post by the keeper. TNS settled the quicker out of the 2 teams and soon went close with a long range effort from Lewis that just went over the bar with the keeper beaten. TNS lads started to get hold of the ball and pass it around and attack City. Lewis, Nash, Josh and Harrison all going close. On 23 minutes City scored against the run of play. TNS continued to attack City. Rhys and Josh linked up well down the left hand side, with Rhys beating 2 City players, his cross was met by Lewis, who saw his header go agonisingly wide. The half ended with City winning 1-0.
Changes were made for the 2nd half and the players got straight into the game. Will picked the ball up just inside his own half and switched the play out wide to Jack his first time pass was pick up by James who was brought down just outside the box. The resulting free kick was cleared by City. Andy in goal for TNS pulled off an excellent save from the counter attack. Ryan unfortunately had to leave the field due to an injury and was replaced by Callum and Nial replaced Andy in goal. Lewis and James both had half chances as TNS looked to get an equaliser they fully deserved. As the game moved into the final 10 minutes, Man City scored 2 more goals.
Jase and Steve commented “We are both really proud of the lads today. They come to this amazing complex against a very good Man City team and took the game to them. Thought we were the better team 1st half and have had several very good opportunities to score, before they scored, against the run of play. The lads have played some superb football all over the pitch and they were a credit to TNS. We have had some excellent comments back from the City coaches, with regards to the way the lads have been coached, as it clearly shown in the way they played.
We would like to say thank you to Man City for hosting us and for the hospitality before and after the game.”
