TNS Ladies Suffer First League Defeat of Season

The New Saints Ladies suffered their first defeat of the league season, losing 2-0 to Birmingham & West Midlands Police.

The Saints got off to the worst possible start, within five minutes an out swinging corner from Natalie Courtney, was met by the Police’s Emily Painter who fired the ball past Charlotte Edmunds in the Saints goal.

The Saints took a bit of time to adjust back into the game, against a very well organised Police side. The Saints eventually got back into the game with the best chance of the half coming from a free kick.

The second half saw much of the same with the Saints coming up against a resilient Police defence who stood strong leaving no space in behind for the Saints to exploit.

With only 15 minutes left, the visitors suffered a second blow, Charlotte Edmunds cleared the ball out towards Megan Haynes on the right wing, the Police won the ball and broke quickly in numbers and a great cross was met at the back post by Gemma Horne who tapped home to seal the win for Birmingham & West Midlands Police.

The Saints’ day went from bad to worse with Sam Berry and Nicole Walford were forced off with injuries.

After the game Manager Joe Thompson comment, “Nothing has changed from our point of view. We go again next weekend when we travel to Telford to face Wrockwardine Wood.”

The New Saints Ladies travel to fellow Shropshire side Wrockwardine Wood Ladies next Sunday where they hope to get back to winning ways.
