The FAW today confirmed that the 2015 FAW Welsh Cup Final, in association with Tenovus, will be held at Paveaways Latham Park on Saturday, 2 May at 2:30pm.

The Final will be contested by Newtown and The New Saints and the decision to host the match at the home The Robins came following discussions with the officials of both clubs.

The Saints reached the final after a dramatic Semi-Final victory over Airbus UK at Latham Park.

Ticketing details for the match will be released in due course and the showpiece event is expected to sell out, as it will be Newtown’s first appearance in the Final since 1897.

Andrew Howard, Head of Competitions, said: “It’s going to be an excellent event to look forward to and our planning for a showcase Final is already underway. The fact that it’s been over 100 years since Newtown FC reached this stage will hopefully encourage the whole town to support what will be a new chapter in the history of their football club.’

The match will be shown live on S4C’s Sgorio and presenter Nicky John said: “It’s going to be a fantastic occasion to cover the 2015 FAW Welsh Cup. History will be made when The New Saints meet Newtown. We’ll be there to either see Craig Harrison’s all-conquering The New Saints clinch the treble or witness Chris Hughes’ resurgent Newtown win their first Welsh Cup for 120 years.

“If the Final is half as exciting as the Semi-Final between Airbus UK Broughton and The New Saints, and contains goals half as good as Matty Owen’s strike that saw Newtown beat Rhyl, we are in for a treat.”
