Many people dread Monday mornings, but I was very much looking forward to the start of the week. The reason being that it was the draw for the Champions League. I love modern technology, and took advantage of the live streamed event as the footballing equivalent of bingo took place, with balls being chosen and numbers announced.
I don’t know if you’d call it ‘house’ or whatever they shout these days, but it was certainly an exciting moment when ‘The New Saints’ ball was plucked. After weeks of anticipation, we knew exactly where our European adventure would begin. And of course, we all know by now that we drew the champions of the Faroe Islands.
In fact, by the time this is published we will be on our way to B36 Torshavn. It’s a long journey, leaving Park Hall at 10.00 am today (Monday) travelling to Edinburgh by coach. Then it’s in the air for a north-bound flight to the Faroes themselves.
As well as the game of course, I am looking forward very much to connecting with people. Before Monday was out I had already joined a B36 Facebook fan group and made plenty of new on-line friends. That’s one of the big positives about social media, it makes the world a smaller place and brings people together.
The highlight of Monday though, was without doubt, our all-singing and all-dancing chairman featuring on Sky Sports News! I’m sure by now you’ve seen the video. What started out as a bit of fun, with Ian Williams acting as cameraman, actually ended up as a great PR exercise for the club.
I spoke with Mike on the phone in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and because he was still in Geneva, he was unaware that he had been on TV constantly throughout the day! Mike Harris. Living legend!
On to the big game itself, TNS Radio will be live on air this Wednesday from 6.30 pm GMT so make sure you’re listening. All you need is an Internet connection, with the link to the broadcast via the TNS home page.
We’ve added technology for the new season, courtesy of Sam Thomas, and that includes a phone-in facility. It’s just the cost of a UK call as well, so don’t be shy and give us a bell on 01691 886969.
And finally, talking of bell, or should that be Belle, the game sees the return of our popular just-for-fun competion #BeatTheBelle. For this game, our resident legend (although his predictions last season didn’t match his on-field status) Cortez reckons it will be B36 2 TNS 1. What do you think? Tweet us on the TNS account and see if you can get it right.
