Last night, Mike Wilde’s 90th minute winning goal not only sealed victory in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round over B36 but also secured The New Saints’ first ever away victory in the UEFA Champions League.
The last minute goal has now put Harrison’s team in control of the tie and the former Crystal Palace defender was delighted with the result, ‘We thoroughly deserved the win, it was an open game – a bit too open for my liking sometimes as the away team – but we had another two or three opportunities to maybe score more goal, but to be fair, Paul Harrison after about 70 minutes has made a great save from a counter-attack.’
Harrison added, ‘We’ll be going into the home leg to win it; obviously B36 have got to come out and have got to score, but I’d back us to score at least a goal at home. We’ve got a lot of pace and quality in our team and we’re very good on the counter-attack.’
The second leg will take place at Park Hall Stadium on Tuesday the 7th of July.
