TNS Ladies Continue Good Start

The New Saints Ladies went into the league cup first round tie away at Wednesfield Town Ladies after winning their opening league game against Walsall Ladies and also the first qualifying round of the FA Cup away at Knowle Ladies. The trip to Wednesfield saw changes throughout the side. Chloe Wilkinson, Jodie Sands and Amy Tomei all got their first starts of the season, while Sarah Burke, after impressing the club last week with her performance with the Reserve team saw her return for the first time since the back end of last season.

The Saints once again got off to the best possible start. Emily Ridge opened the scoring after latching onto a ball that got through the Town defence. She then doubled the lead, slotting past the goalkeeper after some good play by the Saints, penning Wendesfield in their half for large periods of time. The Saints were in full control of the game and Laura Morris scored for the third consecutive game in a row before Ridge completed the scoring before half time .

There was no change in the performance second half either from the Shropshire side. Maddie Jones came on for Amy Tomei and she grabbed her first competitive goal for the ladies, not long after her arrival on to the pitch. Jones didn’t waste any time either and straight from kick off the Saints won the ball back and the teenager got her second of the game, firing home from inside the eighteen yard box. The Shropshire side looked to add to their tally but the hosts became resilient to break down seeing the Saints win 6-0.

The Saints progress into the next round of the competition they lost in the final of last season and manager Joe Thompson commented, “We dominated today from start to finish and played the game to an extremely high manner. We were first class in every department. Another clean sheet which is always pleasing and a performance to match”.

Emily now already nearly in double figures is superb considering we’ve only played three games. She looks full of confidence which is always nice to watch. I would go as far as to say it’s probably our most dominant performance since I’ve been manager. We really were that good today.

“I’m very pleased for Maddie getting her first two goals. She makes so many good decisions and works tirelessly and her two finishes today were first class. I could talk individually about everyone today we were that good but special mentions go to Chloe and Jodie today. Both put in superb performance both  Will and I couldn’t split them for our players of the match. On wards to the FA cup now, and a home tie. The football we play is exciting and I’m hoping people come down to watch”.

The New Saints Ladies next match is next Sunday in the Women’s FA Cup at home to Billbrook Ladies 2pm kick off at Park Hall Stadium.
