TNS Academy Round Up – 19th & 20th September 2015
Under 8s (Sat 19th)
Airbus 9 TNS 6
We travelled to Airbus to take on a very big and physical side. We knew we were in for a tough game. We fell behind early on after the young Airbus lad managed to smash home a free kick. The game was very closely contested but we did manage to pull a goal back when Rui’s shot was blocked and Ellis converted the rebound. We went into the second quarter and fell to pieces, numerous mistakes led to Airbus scoring three goals in the quarter, one coming from our goal kick, another free kick and a goal from a corner kick. The difference between the second and third quarter was unbelievable. We played our best football in this quarter and our pressing from the front was the catalyst to this play. Ronnie grabbed the first of the quarter, followed by a brace from Ellis and then Ronnie added another to complete a fantastic turnaround. We went into the final quarter 5-4 up. Unfortunately it went downhill from here on and more mistakes lead to Airbus scoring three goals. Rui did manage to score but this wasn’t enough for us to make another comeback and Airbus scored another two.
A learning curve for the boys and lots to work on in training. A good performance against a bigger and a more physical side. A special mention to Liam and Nikolas who were outstanding at the back. The squad consisted of: Sam, Liam, Nikolas, Fenn, Ronnie, Rui, Patrick, Ellis and Alex (U7).

Squad – Henry Green, Sam Gregory-Cork, Finley Chorlton-Wilcox, Jack Davies, Jake Jones, Ieuan Jones-Wellstead, Ollie Sumner, Oliwier Fiedor, Louis Rowlands.
Goalscorer – Oliwier Fiedor
The match was played over three periods of 20 minutes. The match in my opinion was not as one sided as the score would suggest, We looked to play an attacking game looking to control possession and beat players in 1v1 situations. A good portion of the game was played in the Airbus half with the GK pulling off several good saves.
Unfortunately when our attacking play broke down Airbus left a player almost on our goal line and looked top play long balls over the top of our defence and most of they’re goals game through the same pattern of us attacking and getting caught in possession then a long punt up the pitch leaving our defence scurrying back to no avail.
Another observation of the game was how long the pitch was and that the goals were too big for the U10 age group.
Oliwier Fiedor played his first game for the U10’s and got himself on the scoresheet finishing a very good team goal which started with GK Henry Green playing a short goal kick to Jake Jones. The boys worked the ball through midfield and Louis Rowlands squared for Oliwier to apply a neat finish.
Although the boys came off feeling a little deflated with the scoreline i feel we will have taken more out of the game than Airbus and are very well equipped to improve moving forward.

Wigan Athletic 7 TNS 0
Squad : Jack Edwards, Jac Herbert, Mikey Robinson, Ed Moore, Eric Durnell, Harry McVeigh, James McFarlane, Steven King, Jack Todd
The saints had a very tough morning away to wigan losing this game by 7 goals. For long periods of the match the saints more than held their own playing some decent football, but it was their passing that really let them down, giving the ball back to a very clinical wigan team. This is what the boys need to learn, to play at the next level you need to look after the ball and be assured with your passing and not giving opposition the advantage in dangerous areas…The saints did have the ball in the wigan net only for it to be disallowed for the ball just going out before Eric durnell was able to take on 2 wigan players and neatly finish in the the top corner…saints striker Todd did have a good chance but for once his finishing let him down…so there was some positives for the saints, but also alot to work on, but all in all a good experience for the boys well done…

Squad : David, Shea, Matt, Regan, Louis, Ryan, Shane, Luke, James PJ, Jack P, Kyle, Jack B, Alfie, Trystan, Will , Robbie
Goalscorers: Robbie(2), Shane, Will
An excellent game took place at Airbus this morning. Playing in 3 thirds, Airbus took control of the first third by scoring 2 goals. Their first goal was after 20 minutes when a strike from the edge of the area went in. Their second goal came from a unmarked header, 5 minutes later. This was disappointing from a defensive point of view.
The middle third was a more even affair. Airbus took a 3 goal lead after 5 minutes following a corner which we did not clear. TNS started to play better football and goal a goal back 10 minutes later, when Robbie Bateman hit a great shot from the edge of the area. We made it 2-3 when Louis and Shane combined well down the left wing, which resulted in Shane having a shot which crept in at the near post.
In the final third the team was rotated again to try and achieve equal playing time. Will Nevitt levelled the score after 10 minutes. We continued to play good football with Jack Brindley playing very well on the right. It was his persistence and work rate which provided a great cross which was converted by Robbie Bateman for his second goal, and TNS taking the lead 4-3.
Coach Mark Evans said “This was an excellent team performance, goalscorers do get the headlines but all of the 16 players had a huge part to play in a well fought victory against a very good Airbus team.”
