Llansantffraid 0   Bangor City   2

Twenty years ago Llansantffraid as the club were known then were at home to Bangor City in a mid-week game. The Saints were managed by Ian Clarke who had lead them to their first League Cup success the previous season.

The Saints were having a mediocre start to the season. Bangor City came to Llansantffraid as the reigning 1994/95 champions but were just four points above the Saints in eighth place. At the time Ebbw Vale were the league leaders with Barry Town sitting menacingly behind them in second place with a game in hand.

Bangor were managed at the time by Nigel Adkins (of recent Southampton fame), and at the time were regarded as one of the strongest teams in Wales as well as one of the most successful.

On the night it was Bangor who took the lead on 11 minutes when local Oswestry striker Frank Mottram (voted at the time as one of their all time top players) broke from his own half into the Saints half, rounded Saints keeper Andy Mulliner before crossing unselfishly to Johnathan Parry to score with simple tap in.

Chances for the Saints fell to Garry Evans and Simon Abrercombie but they came to nothing and a Steve Pugh goal late in the second half wrapped things up for the visitors.
