This weekend the under 10’s travelled to highflying premier league Leicester City’s academy along with other teams from the TNS foundation phase. Four players from the under 9 team were also included in the squad as reward for some outstanding diaplays so far this season with their age group.
The match was played 8v8 over 4×20 minute periods. Our aim was to get hold of the ball early and retain possession looking to take advantage of any opportunity to play forward. We took the lead early on through a great finish from Jack Jones and from that point the boys played with confidence and enthusiasm and were equal to Leicester throughout a closely contested match. Going into the final period the score was TNS 5-4 Leicester city, Unfortunately for the team we were unable to finish the match ahead and go home with a victory that would of capped a fantastic performance. Regardless of the score line i was immensely proud of the way the boys conducted themselves while we were at the facility and look forward to taken the team to more prestigious teams in the future.

After a very good performance the saints ended up losing this encounter 9-7 after going behind to an early goal from Leicester…Ralfie brought the scores level with an excellent free kick, the boys then raced into a 6-1 lead but with losing a couple of players found the last 25 mins of the game tough with Leicester roaring back to take the lead. The boys never gave up and gave the premier league academy side a good run for their money…everyone enjoyed the experience and will hopefully have learned a few lessons…well done boys..
