The New Saints Ladies Reserves narrowly lost out to league leaders Kidsgrove Athletic. The Saints took the lead after 14 minutes, Hannah Brown scoring her first goal of the season for the club. She then doubled the lead not long after, Maddie Jones’s shot was saved by the visitors goalkeeper only for Hannah Brown to tap home. The Saints looked in full control until a momentary laps allowed Kidsgrove back into the game before half time.
The second half would prove much the same as the first. Maddie Jones fired home to give the Saints their two goal cushion before Kidsgrove got back into the game once again, this time through a long range effort. The visitors would then go on t equalise in controversial circumstances, a through ball saw the Kidsgrove player slot past Toran Kelly. However the linesmans flag was raised for an offisde. After a lengthy discussion the decision was made to let the goal stand, much to the disgust of the Shropshire side. The decision would prove the turning point of the game and with minutes remaining Kidsgrove got the winning goal.
After the game reserves manager Ben Richards commented, “It was a fantastic effort by all the ladies today, but unfortuantly in football you don’t always get what you put in”.
The Saints reserves now face Leek CSOB away next Sunday while the first team travel to Kingshurst Sporting.
