The New Saints of Oswestry Town Football Club today visited the Oswestry and Borders Foodbank and donated Christmas gifts.
The Dafabet Welsh Premier League Champions donated over 50 advent calendars and Christmas selection boxes to the Oswestry Foodbank.
TNS manager Craig Harrison was more than happy to help the local community and said, ‘With Christmas around the corner this is something I am really happy to support. To help children by giving them something like an advent calendar is the least we can do and I speak on behalf of all the players when I say that the Football Club will continue to fully support the local community.’
Phil Simpson who runs the Oswestry Foodbank said, ‘We have a lot of donations throughout the year and we really appreciate all of the support from the community. We have a number of volunteers who work here and they work hard to ensure we are able to supply food for the local area. I would like to thank TNS for the generous donations today.’
Foodbanks work by firstly food being donated and then being stored and sorted. Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and pack it into boxes ready to be given to people in need.
Frontline care professionals then identify people in need, such as Sure Start, Children In Need and Barnardos, plus many more and then issue them with a foodbank voucher.
