Saints Held to A Draw

The New Saints of Oswestry Town were held to a one all draw at Park Hall Stadium after a Chris Venables goal in the second half cancelled out Matty Williams’ early strike.

TNS broke the deadlock after only seven minutes thanks to Williams. The TNS number ten pounced on a loose ball after Chris Seargeant’s powerful shot had been parried.

Moments later and The Saints nearly doubled the advantage. A wonderful pass from Ryan Edwards released Jamie Mullan but his shot was deflected wide.

The visitors then missed a chance to level when Rhys Griffiths headed over from close range.

Midway through the half, Williams’ powerful header was superbly saved by Mike Lewis as The Saints went in search for a second goal.

The second half began with TNS nearly making it two nil but Adrian Cieslewicz’s header struck the post and bounced clear.

Moments later and Williams found space inside the box but his shot cannoned off the bar and went over as TNS continued to push forward.

With only twenty minutes left to play, Venables levelled with a magnificent half volley from just inside the box.

TNS continued to look for the winner inside the final ten minutes but despite testing Lewis with a couple of close range efforts the winner never came.
