The New Saints Ladies Reserves progressed into the Quarter Final of the Stafforshire Women’s League Cup after beating Burton Albion Ladies Development 5-0 at Park Hall.
The game got moved to Park Hall earlier in the week due to the current weather. The Saint kept the ball well in the opening minutes and made pay of it in the ninth minutes. Nisa Mendes played in Charlotte Canlett twenty yards from goal. Canlett fired in a shot above the goalkeeper head which she couldn’t deal with to put the Saints 1-0 up. The Saints then doubled their lead eleven minutes later. Rebecca Pritchard cut into the box beating two players before cutting the ball back to Charlotte Canlett. Canlett’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper onto the post, where Grace Blowers was on hand to tap it into the empty net. Three minutes later and the hosts added another. The ball made its way all the way from Saints goalkeeper Ffion Davies, before Rebecca Pritchard took a heavy touch to beat a player then drilling the ball to Grace Blowers at the near post who fired home from close range. The Saints could have added to there lead with less than ten minutes to play. Lauren James set up Charlotte Canlett whos shot hit the Burton defender but was kept out by a reflex save by the goalkeeper.
The Shropshire side didn’t easy off in the second half and with eleven minutes had added a fourth goal. A throw by Lauren James saw Rebecca Pritchard pass into Charlotte Canlett on the edge of the box, who fired a shot into the top corner of the net. Canlett nearly added another minutes later. A corner from the right hand side found Grace Blowers who set up Charlotte Canlett, who’s shot rattled the crossbar. The Saints rounded off the goals when a outside of the foot cross by Charlotte Canlett was met by the on rushing Grace Blowers who flicked the ball past the goalkeeper in the Burton goal. Blowers then nearly added her fourth of the game when Rebecca Pritchard broke down the right hand side to slot her in. Her shot was saved well by the out rushing Burton goalkeeper. The Saints saw the game out to a clean sheet and a place in the next round of the cup.
