The New Saints Community Foundation held a Football Tournament at Park Hall Stadium on Wednesday 3rd of February for local schools.
The New Saints Community Shield featured 9 schools, with pupils from years 5 and 6.
The tournament was put together via The New Saints Community Foundation and Street Games, with Street Games volunteer Euan Harris playing a key role in the organising of the tournament, alongside head of foundation at The New Saints Jason Brindley.
The teams were made up of both girls and boys. Taking part were Cockshutt, Bryn Offa, St Johns, Gobowen, Ellesmere, St Andrews, Criftins, Our Ladys and the Tournament winners, Whittington.
Afterwards, we spoke to Jason Brindley who said:
“We are really pleased with the first TNS Community Shield. The quality of football on show was fantastic, with some thrilling matches. We had a really good turnout from local schools who are crying out for something more in the area. The North of Shropshire can get neglected to an extent, I want The Venue to become a hub of activities for all going forward. We are already looking at arranging another festival for school years 3 and 4, again to give something back to the community and showcase what we can provide at The New Saints. A big thank you to Street Games Volunteer Euan for all his hard work organising the tournament.”
