The u10’s travelled to Prestatyn for an early kick off by the sea on a cold and windy morning. Looking to turn our form around after some difficult fixtures recently we had to adapt to testing conditions with a bobbly pitch making short intricate passing difficult to execute. The team started really well and had the lions share of possession and territory however goals were difficult to come by with the surface making it difficult to judge the bounce of the ball and get a clean connection on it.

It was pleasing to see the team spirit and determination from all players and eventually we managed to take the lead through Tom Wolstenholme who looked to put the ball into a dangerous area from the left wing and with some assistance from the uneven pitch the Prestatyn GK was wrong footed and the ball went straight in.

TNS continued to dominate and create goal scoring chances but the Prestatyn GK was in impressive form and made some fine saves to get the score at 1-0 going into the third quarter.

In the third quarter more of the same followed but Prestatyn were starting to throw more players forward and play higher up the pitch which was quickly punished by Jack Davies winning the ball back in our defensive third and picking out a excellently weighted through ball for Ben to race onto and slot home neatly. 4th and final quarter was a little more competitive with Prestatyn throwing more bodies forward and our boys understandably nervous trying to hold onto what was looking like a very good victory. Sam Gregory-Cork was called into action a couple of times pulling off two very impressive saves before Prestatyn struck the post. The boys held firm though and got the victory they deserved. All in all it was a great display of both football and determination which was well rewarded with a satisfying victory to match the performance.

Under 16s (Sun 6th March)

Porthmadog 0 TNS 5

The under 16’s continued their duties with a trip to Porthmadog.
The lads looked at the pitch and could see some areas were heavy and had a game plan to keep out of these areas.
The game started brightly for TNS with Harvey going on a mazey run but his shot was saved by the keeper. TNS had total control of the game but couldn’t make their dominance pay off early doors.
The pressure soon paid off when Lewis Kayes’ corner was met by Zak Dobie to tap home. The goal lifted the lads and soon went 2-0 up again Zak scoring of a corner. This time it was Harveys’ corner was met by Zak to nod into the empty net. The lads had several more half chances to go further had but couldn’t take them.
Half time Porthmadog 0-2 TNS

The lads made several changes at half time and the instructions were to continue to work hard and keep control of the game.
The lads pressed the ball high up the pitch and forced the Porthmadog defence and keeper to kick it long. Dennis Bates won the ball on the halfway line and his quick thinking saw the keeper off his line and his shot come back off the bar with the keeper beaten. TNS increased the lead through a Peter Fletcher strike. The TNS number 10 played a 1-2 with Ade and his curling effort nestled in the top corner of the net.
Peter was at the heart of everything going forward and the Porthmadog players couldn’t handle his movement. TNS soon went further ahead through Dennis Bates. The TNS captain won the ball in midfield and played a 1-2 with Peter, Dennis then played an inch perfect pass to Ade and he beat 2 players before pulling the ball back for Dennis to smash into the roof of the net. TNS were not finished and the energetic Harvey Plimmer beat his man and played the ball across the front of the goal for Rob Reynolds to tap in at the back post.

Squad from- Lewis, Haci, Lewis, Zak, Dan, Dennis, Curtis, jack, Jamie, Sam, Harvey, jack, Peter, Ade, Matt, Rob, Ben

Scorers : Zak -2, Dennis-1, Peter-1, Rob-1

Coach Steve Monk said “A very good performance today by all of the lads. It is a credit to Porthmadog to get the game on with the adverse weather we have been having recently. The lads adapted really well to the pitch conditions and stuck to the game plan. The 1st half performance allowed us to rest players coming back from injuries for the 2nd half and the lads continued to dominate the game 2nd half. Porthmadog come out and had a go 2nd half but the back 4 and the 2 screeners didn’t allow them time on the ball. I don’t remember our keepers making a save all game. It was pleasing to see the lads stick to the game plan and the instructions given before the game and at half time. We 3 more difficult games coming up and we must show the same character and desire as we have done in our last 2 games for us to achieve a top four finish.”
