Sunday saw The New Saints Under 12’s welcome SkyBet Championship side Birmingham City to Park Hall Stadium and The Saints were able to hold their illustrious opponents to a fantastic five all daw.
The New Saints started brightly creating numerous opportunities but found themselves 2-0 down early on. The home side reacted quickly and were back in the game when TJ Burns calmly slotted home from a tight angle.
However, the Blues pulled ahead again despite TNS being on top with some good work coming down the right from Alfie Martin, Harry Holland and Matt Marshall.
The second half was equally entertaining. Rhys Edwards and Josh Lock were linking up well going forward creating multiple opportunities, however they could not beat the excellent Birmingham City goalkeeper. A further two goals from MOTM TJ Burns, a cool finish from lively debutant Alex Palmer and another goal from Birmingham added to the drama meaning the match was balanced at 4-4 with six minutes to play.
Inspired by the exciting football they were playing, The Saints marched forward with TJ Burns capitalising on a defensive mix up in which he fantastically placed his effort into the bottom corner.
Despite a very spirited performance, a win was not to be as Birmingham equalised with seconds to play.
After the game, Under 12’s Coach Kieran Lee-Birch said, “Today was another fantastic experience for the lads and I thought we started brightly however we found ourselves 2-0 down early on. We have showed great character to get back into the game and go ahead with only minutes left, unfortunately we could not hold on though.”
The squad consisted of – Harrison. L, Matt. M, Jay. L, Harry. O, Jez. W, Harry. H, Harishanker. S, Josh. L, Alfie. M, TJ. B, Rhys. E, Ellis. T, McKenzie. PG, Alex. P and James. PJ.
