How many Towns can boast to having three treble winning football teams in one town?
Well Oswestry can proudly start shouting from the rooftops about football in the town and how successful all three clubs are.
Amazingly the historic market town of Oswestry in Shropshire has seen all three football teams in the town secure trebles during their respective campaigns.
A total of nine trophies has been won by the town collectively this season by all three teams who all play their home games at Oswestry’s Park Hall Stadium.
The town’s only professional outfit, The New Saints of Oswestry Town clinched a domestic treble, for the second successive season after a 2-0 victory against Airbus UK in the JD FAW Welsh Cup Final.
The cup success added with the Word Cup which was won against Denbigh Town back in January as well as a fifth consecutive Dafabet Welsh Premier League title, ensured a fantastic treble had been achieved by TNS for the second season in a row.
FC Oswestry Town have also been celebrating success with a treble of their own. Having already secured the Mercian Regional Premier League title, the community club have also won the Commander Ethelstone Cup and were recently triumphant in the FA Mercian Premier League Cup.
The New Saints Ladies also won a treble this season after picking up the Tom Farmer Shropshire Women’s Cup, the West Midlands Regional Premier Cup and also winning the West Midlands Regional Premier League.
The New Saints Chairman Mike Harris was delighted to help bring further success to the town and said, ’It is a testimony to the hard work and dedication on and of the pitch by players management and staff. It is also great news for the Town helping the local economy bring travelling supporters to the area and employing well over 50 local staff.’
