The New Saints of Oswestry Town manager Craig Harrison is pleased to have signed Tom Matthews from Queens Park Rangers and is confident that the young defender will be able to succeed at The Saints.
Born in Norwich, the 19 year old Matthews can play in a number of defensive positions and has put pen to paper on a two year contract with Harrison’s side.
The former Middlesbrough defender said, ‘Tom has got lots of potential and has a great attitude to work hard, a desire to succeed and has very good ability.’
Last season he was the U18 captain before progressing into a regular U21 player having joined from Norwich City in 2014 but has now decided to switch from Under 21 football in order to play UEFA Champions League football with TNS.
The TNS manager added, ‘He can play anywhere across the back four and we are very pleased to have signed him on a two year deal. The deal will give both Tom and the coaching staff time to make the transition from top level professional U21 football to men’s competitive football, the same way we have done with both Ryan Brobbel and Robbie Parry.’
