New signing Tom Matthews has expressed his delight at joining The New Saints and is looking forward to getting out on the pitch.
TNS signed Tom from Queens Park Rangers after the clubs successfully negotiated the transfer and the youngster is looking forward to play in the UEFA Champions League, ‘It all happened very quickly and I am delighted to be here. I knew about TNS winning the League and of course the UEFA Champions League is what every player dreams of.’
Born in Norwich, the 18-year-old can play in a number of defensive positions and said, ‘I will work very hard for the club and I will always put a shift in. I will give 100% and I hope that I can help the club continue to win trophies.’
The very capable defender is a bright England prospect and recently played against Manchester United star Marcus Rashford in the Under 21’s FA Youth Cup, ‘I enjoyed my time at QPR and it was a great experience. It was also fantastic to play in games against Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup.’
Last season he was the U18 captain before progressing into a regular U21 player having joined from Norwich City in 2014 but has now decided to switch from Under 21 football in order to play UEFA Champions League football with TNS.
Tom will wear the number 12 shirt for The Saints.
