On Tuesday (June 27) the rubber hits the road as far as competitive football is concerned, as TNS’ season kicks off with a Champions League Qualifying Round 1 game at Park Hall.
Following a number of friendlies, including Rangers, St Johnstone and Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy, the visit of the current Gibraltarian champions signals the start of what promises to be another busy season.
Nicknamed The Green Machine, Europa FC broke Lincoln Red Imps’ incredible hold on the Gibraltar Premier Division that encompassed 14 consecutive seasons.
In fact it’s only the second time this century that Lincoln have failed to win the league. The 2016 / 2017 campaign went down to the wire, as Europa FC sealed their first title since 1952, with a victory against Glacis United on May 21.
Formed in 1925, a series of mergers and name-changes in the seventies and beyond saw the club revert back to the original Europa FC, in 2015.
Competing in the Europa League since 2014 / 2015, this is the club’s first excursion into the Champions League.
Their first two seasons in the Europa ended with 4-0 and 9-0 aggregate defeats against FC Vaduz and Slovan Bratislava respectively.
However, last time round saw an overall 3-2 against Armenian side, FC Pyunik, send The Green Machine into the next round.
A 1-0 defeat in both legs against Sweden’s AIK meant the Gibraltarians exited the competition.
The game at Park Hall kicks off at 7.00 pm (UK time) and ticket information can be found BY CLICKING HERE.
