This Friday (August 11) sees the Welsh Premier League 2017/2018 season get underway with three games, including Bangor City v The New Saints FC.
Kick-off at the Bangor University Stadium is 7.45 pm as the reigning champions, under the new Ruscoe / Evans management team, look to carry on where they left off last season.
League winners last time round with an incredible 27-point gap (no pun intended) between first and second place, our opponents on Friday, after finishing bottom-six the previous time round, ended the campaign in fourth spot.
The two WPL games between the sides at Nantporth ended all-square, as a 2-1 TNS victory in November – with goals from Draper and Darlington – was cancelled out by a 3-0 defeat in April, in the penultimate game of the league season.
Looking back over the years, the game that will stand out for both sets of fans though – but for very reasons, is the encounter that turned out to be a very Good Friday indeed for The New Saints.
A 9-1 victory on the road with goals from Draper (3), Quigley (2), Williams (2), Seargeant and Aeron Edwards inflicted the heaviest top-flight defeat to date on the Citizens.
To highlight the squad consistency, seven players from that game in 2014 are still at Park Hall – Draper, Edwards (Aeron), Harrison, Marriott, Quigley, Rawlinson and Seargeant.
Back to the present though and admission to the Bangor University Stadium is £9 / Concessions (seniors, students, juniors) £6 / Children (U-12) £2.
If you’re not at the game then don’t miss out. We will be bringing you commentary via TNS Radio. It’s slightly different this season as, if you’re listening via phone or tablet, there won’t be a link appearing on the home page of the site.
Instead there will be a link within a separate post. There will be plenty of publicity beforehand though via our social media platforms.
Whether in person or on air, as always, we look forward to your company.
