Following Sunday’s dramatic penalty shoot-out victory against Scottish Championship side Livingston at Park Hall, today we journeyed north of the English border ourselves, as the draw was made for the third round of the Irn-Bru Cup.
The draw for the previous round was held at the magnificent Falkirk Wheel, this time it was at an equally impressive structure – the Riverside Museum, Glasgow.
The previous draw saw our Media & Communications Officer, Stewart Bloor, travelling alone but this time he was accompanied by Brian Jones, our official photographer, and Steve Saunders.
Currently out injured, it was an opportunity for the Scotland international to visit his homeland. Since joining The New Saints, the ex-Dumbarton, Motherwell and Ross County defender has established himself as a regular in the starting line-up.
The draw itself saw The New Saints – represented by ball number three – out first and quickly followed by Elgin City. The game will be played October 7/8 and details will appear in due course.
We now have confirmation of the game:
Saturday 7 October, 2017
IRN-BRU Cup third round
The New Saints v Elgin City
Live on S4C, kick-off 4.30pm
Known as the Black And Whites, courtesy of their first choice colours, our upcoming opponents are currently in the fourth tier of Scottish football.
With four games of the new season played, they find themselves sitting in third place in a ten-team league. With seven points on the board they have a goal difference of +1.
We look forward to welcoming Elgin City to Park Hall in October.
