TNS Academy Players Of The Month – August 2017

At our first team JD Welsh Premier League fixture against Cefn Druids last Friday evening, we celebrated our Academy Players Of The Month for August.

Each age-group player along with his family, enjoyed complimentary hospitality, as well as receiving a trophy of recognition on the pitch at half-time, presented by Alex Darlington.

Under 7s – Harry Dillon

Jason: “Harry has had a brilliant start to this season. He shows a great attitude in training and always listens, wanting to improve. Harry was with us last season as well and it definitely shows with his understanding of the game.”

Under 8s – Harry Nunnelly

Coach Andy said: “Harry shows an excellent attitude in all training sessions with good attendance. There have been some some great performances in recent games both as an individual and part of the team. He is a driving force for us. Well done Harry!”

Under 9s – George Jenkins

Coach Danny: “George was rewarded with Player Of the Month for August for many reasons. Mainly though because of his fantastic attitude and commitment to the club, along with his ability to be a very versatile player. He can play anywhere on the field and never complains.”

“The psychological part to his game is extremely impressive for the U9s level and is the real core and strength to the team. He normally plays in a position in the middle of midfield and has the awareness/composure and more importantly, the understanding, to follow the TNS DNA, with breaking opposition lines in the attacking third and also playing out from the back in the defensive third.”

Under 10s – Harrison Randall

Coach Ash: “Harrison’s been working extremely hard in both training and games and has been used in the heart of midfield and out wide. He has been a great asset as he holds the ball and splits teams apart with his great vision and precise passes, contributing to many goals.”

“He has also shown his defensive side, working hard to get the ball back any way that he can. His performance against a strong Swansea City side recently was a stand-out for the month.”

Under 11s – Joe Drummond

Coach Kieran: “Joe’s been given this award as a reward for his exemplary attitude to learning, both on and off the pitch. He works tirelessly during training and matches and is always looking to improve his game.”

“Joe’s highlight of the month came against Stoke City where he scored an incredible goal, smashing the ball in the top corner from 20+ yards using his weaker foot. He’s also an ever present at our first team fixtures, looking to learn off the likes of Jon Routledge and Tom Holland.”

Under 12s – Ollie Sumner

Coach Brett: “Ollie Sumner has been awarded Player Of the Month for August because of his stand-out performances against Telford and Tamworth. He showed excellent technical ability leading the line as the sole striker holding up the ball and combining with the advancing midfielders to both score and create goal-scoring opportunities for his team mates.”

“He also showed great desire out of possession to work the opposition centre backs and turn the ball over in our attacking third on several occasions.”

Under 13s – Adam Tirebuck

Jason: “Adam has done fantastic since coming to The New Saints FC Academy this season. He shows a great understanding of our philosophy already, having spent a period with the club in the past.

“In games Adam works tirelessly for his team mates and has thoroughly deserved the award with some stand-out performances, particularly in France in their recent tournament. Well done Adam.”

Under 14s – Harry Cullen

Coach Kieran: “Harry has been awarded U14s Player Of The Month for his fantastic attitude to learning and willingness to help his team. In addition to this, his commitment to our training program is exemplary.”

“During a busy August program ‘Culley’ has played in multiple positions, making a big impact. Harry is an excellent passer and tackler and possesses the rare ability to dictate the tempo of a match. Harry’s constantly looking for feedback and always looking to improve his game.”

Under 15s – Will Nevitt

Coach Rob: “Will has trained and played at a consistently high level throughout August. His work rate has been unquestionable and he has been a versatile player for the U15s, filling in at numerous positions and has adapted well to these.”

“It not always about scoring goals but Will has found the net plenty of times in August which just caps off the performances he has given.”

“Will is always striving to do better and you cannot fault his attitude and attendance to our training and games programme during August.”

  • Will was unavailable to attend on Friday.

Under 16s – Aaron Lloyd

Jason: “Aaron is another player who only joined the club in the summer but has made a fantastic impact. He played a huge part in the U16s achievements in the Manchester Cup, receiving a boot to the face in the process but still wanted to train with the team against doctor’s orders – such is the attitude of the boy that he just wants to play.”

“Since returning to the team after his injury, Aaron has been an ever-present and hasn’t missed a session. We are looking forward to working a lot closer with him this season.”

Many thanks to the Academy’s main man, Jason Brindley, for compiling the report. Giving us an overall picture, Jason commented on the winners:

“August has been a busier month than ever for our Academy, with so many top fixtures and opportunities. Despite technically being on a break, we wanted to get the players in as much as possible to expose them to our playing style and philosophy, especially the new players.”

“I think that we are already showing signs of the benefit of this, with the way age groups have started the season. All the Players Of The Month have thoroughly deserved their awards and it was great to see them recognised at the recent Cefn Druids game.”
