FAW WELSH YOUTH CUP 2ND ROUND

PLAYED AT PARK HALL STADIUM, OSWESTRY

SUNDAY 29TH OCTOBER 2017

MATCH REPORT BY David Figg

The New Saints Under 19 team’s hopes of FAW Welsh Youth Cup glory were dashed as they lost 0-2 at home to Llandudno Under 19 in their 2nd Round clash at Park Hall Stadium on Sunday.

It was sweet revenge for Llandudno after their 0-2 home defeat by Saints in the JD Welsh Premier Development League the previous Sunday.  Indeed, Tudno were the better side on the day this time round.

The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when Sean McAffrey ran down the left before pulling the ball back low for Owain Jones to fire his left foot shot from 5 yards at the near post into Saints keeper Aaron Jones’ right hand corner.

Llandudno sealed their win in the 86th minute when Saints keeper Jones’ mis-hit clearance found Osian Jones on the Tudno left who beat Liam Ihekwoaba before firing his right foot shot from 10 yards through keeper Jones’ legs.

Saints: Aaron Jones, Liam Ihekwoaba, Dennis Bates, Tom Gray, Paul Naylor, Liam Parry, Rob Reynolds, Sam Finley, Lewis Kaye, Chris Craven, Harley Steel.  Subs: Matt Cole (for Gray 46), Harry Bower (for Bates 46), Darren Evans (for Steel 66), Lewis Dutton (not used).

Llandudno: Louis Harris, McKenzie Slaven, Harri Jones, Callum Jones, Anthony Marshall, Joe Carey, Aron Hughes, Sean McCaffrey, Owain Jones, Iwan Jones, Osian Jones. Subs: Morgan Owen (for Owain Jones 65), Jamie Landsdowne (for Harri Jones 55), Aron Royles (for Carey 83).

Manager Steve Benyon added:

“Unfortunately the boys put in a disappointing performance and conceded two sloppy goals to fall to a 2-0 defeat. Credit to Llandudno who were worthy winners but we re-group and analyse and work on the many areas for improvement.

Training this week focuses on the second batch of fitness testing with Strength and Conditioning coach Ed Harper, as well as shooting and decision making in and around the penalty box, with upcoming games against Walsall and Airbus.”
