Bala Town v The New Saints Of Oswestry Town – Match Preview

On Saturday, December 9 2017, it’s 6th v 1st as The New Saints of Oswestry Town travel the thirty miles or so to Maes Tegid in the JD Welsh Premier League.

Following last Friday’s 6-0 victory in the JD Welsh Cup against Penrhyncoch, it’s back to league action for Scott Ruscoe’s side. With a five-point gap at the top and a twelve-point divide between the Saints and the Lakesiders, the game is an opportunity for the reigning champions to continue the pace-setting.

Up until a few games ago, there were just two points between the top four clubs but an excellent run of form for TNS, combined with favourable results elsewhere, has ensured that a gap has been created.

The sides have already met once this season in the JD WPL, with The New Saints running out comfortable 3-0 winners at Park Hall. The victory was Scott Ruscoe’s first league success as manager, following the opening day defeat on the road at Bangor City.

Making his debut, and on for the injured Steve Saunders, it was Blaine Hudson who broke the deadlock in the second half. His headed goal was added to by a brace from Wes Fletcher, as The New Saints climbed from a relegation spot into 5th in the table.

Back to this weekend’s game though, Scott Ruscoe is focused on the Bala Town challenge: ‘They’ve had a good spell after the first few games… they’ve picked up and had some good performances.”

Continuing, the man at the Park Hall helm added: ‘It’s up to us to put in a good performance ourselves on Saturday. We have two tough games coming up (Bala Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads) and we’ll be prepared for them.”

The kick-off at Maes Tegid is 5.15 pm and is being shown live on S4C’s Sgorio. In addition, TNS Radio will be bringing live commentary, with the link here on the home page of our website.
