With back-to-back games against Newtown AFC over the festive period, it’s Latham Park that hosts the first encounter, as the reigning JD Welsh Premier League champions make the thirty mile journey along the A483 on Boxing Day.
With a full league fixture list, the game against Newtown is different only in that it’s a 2.00 p.m. start as opposed to the others, who all kick off half an hour later.
Following a good run of form – combined with the chasing pack dropping points – Scott Ruscoe sees his side lead the way at the top with a six, seven and ten points lead over Bangor City, Connah’s Quay and Cardiff Metropolitan University FC respectively.
In addition, The New Saints have a game in hand over the Citizens and the Nomads. However, the manager is focused on the job in hand, with the simple message: “We won’t be taking Newtown for granted.”
Speaking after the 4-0 victory at Park Hall against Aberystwyth last Friday, where there was just the one change from the previous game, we asked Scott if he would still be keeping his team selection tight.
“Yes, definitely” he replied. “Things are going very well for us, we’ve got the momentum. We’re getting clean sheets, we’re scoring goals and we’re looking good.”
In contrast, Newtown find themselves at the wrong end of the table as far as they are concerned. Last weekend’s 4-0 defeat at Deeside Stadium sees them just three points ahead of Prestatyn Town, although they are in a more comfortable position as far as bottom club Carmarthen Town are concerned.
The Old Gold are rooted at the basement, twelve points behind the Robins and Aberystwyth Town, who occupy 9th and 10th places respectively, separated by just goal difference.
We look forward to your support at Latham Park. If you are unable to make the game though, as always you can listen via TNS Radio, with the link here on our website home page.
