This evening, the quarter-final draw for the JD Welsh Cup was made. Live on S4C’s Heno programme, along with regular presenters were a couple of familiar faces as far as Welsh football fans are concerned – Dylan Ebenezer and Owain Tudur Jones.
With seven JD Welsh Premier League teams in the draw – including The New Saints, of course – the eight side was from the fifth tier of domestic football. What a fairytale journey so far it’s been for Penydarren Boys & Girls Club and that continues as they play Bangor City in north Wales.
It will be more familiar territory – and opponents – for The New Saints, as Scott Ruscoe’s side drew Connah’s Quay Nomads away. Having played them twice already in the JD Welsh Premier League – with two more games to come as both sides finished in the top six – plus a Nathaniel MG Cup tie, by the time the season comes to an end the teams will have faced each other six times. Familiar opponents indeed.
A full round-up of the games are below, to be played over the first weekend in March, with confirmation to follow in due course.
Carmarthen Town v Aberystwyth Town
Llandudno v Newtown AFC
Connah’s Quay Nomads v The New Saints
