The New Saints Of Oswestry Town v Bala Town – Match Preview

As the clock ticks down on another JD Welsh Premier League (JD WPL) season, this Friday (March 16, 2018) sees the top two go head-to-head at Park Hall. Although The New Saints have held pole position for some time now, a tremendous run of form from the Lakesiders has seen them take the lead in the chasing pack.

In a February where the weather proved to be the dominant force, Colin Caton’s side earned a 1-1 draw on the road at Connah’s Quay Nomads and a 1-0 victory at Cardiff Met FC, with three points at Maes Tegid courtesy of a 1-0 win against Cefn Druids.

With mother nature continuing to affect the JD WPL fixture list into March, the sole game for Bala Town was an impressive 2-1 scoreline in their favour at Bangor City.

The New Saints, although dropping points in the capital last weekend with the game at Cardiff Met ending 1-1, still remain unbeaten in the league this calendar year. Having played seven games, the five wins and two draws have ensured that going into the final games, Scott Ruscoe sees his side enjoying a healthy twelve point lead at the top.

Talking about the opponents, as always, Scott gave respect when we asked him about the upcoming game: “They’re second in the league and they’ve  just had a fantastic victory at Bangor. They’re a strong side and they made a few signings in the window. They play for Colin Caton and they beat us in the JD Welsh Cup final last May, so they can beat us if we’re not on our game.”

“Hopefully though,” turning his thoughts to The New Saints, he added: “we’ll be back to our best, another good performance. Hopefully we will be clinical and we’ll put that towards our possession and our good football and let’s finish the job off.”

The last time the two sides met was on January 2 this year, as TNS got 2018 off to a flying start with a 3-0 victory at Maes Tegid. In extremely wet and windy conditions, second-half goals from Marriott, Brobbel and Fletcher secured the points for the current JD WPL champions.

Admission to Park Hall is £8 for adults, £4 concessions, with juniors £1. The kick-off time is 7.45 p.m. and if you are unable to make the game then don’t miss out as TNS Radio will be bringing you commentary. The link is here on the home page of our website.
