Professional Phase Impress On The Road

The fourth league game of the season – on Wednesday, October 4 – for the Professional Phase (The New Saints / North Shropshire College) players saw them travel to Rochdale Hopwood, in Lancashire.

Following Monday’s Premier Cup victory against Thomas Telford, manager Steve Benyon was able to rest a number of players, as the squad looked to continue the momentum.

The game itself was high-tempo from the off, with Steel, Williams and Reynolds all scoring well-taken goals within the first ten minutes.

Reynolds added his second – and TNS’ fourth – later on in the first half, to give the visitors a comfortable lead at the break.

Steve Benyon picks up on the second period: “We somewhat took our foot off the gas and were guilty of over-playing at times and going against what our identify and philosophy is all about. This resulted in a sloppy goal conceded.”

“However, a debut goal for Harry Parkinson meant that the final score was 5-1 to TNS NSC.”

Looking ahead, the main man concluded:  “We now turn our attention to Sunday’s re-arranged Welsh Youth Cup game against Caersws, whereby a number of changes will be made to provide others with a chance to impress.”
