All good things must come to an end – Newtown AFC 3 The New Saints FC 3

The New Saints started strongly, taking the game to Newtown. A TNS corner in the 4th minute came to nothing though, while the hosts waited just three minutes later before testing the reigning champions’ goal.

With 17 on the clock, a ball into the box by Newtown’s Edwards down the left was negated by a Brobbel tackle that he timed just right.

With the game developing into an end-to-end affair it was the home side who took the lead on 20 minutes. The initial contact from the corner hit the woodwork, with Mitchell responding first by putting the ball over the line from close range.

As the game approached the 1/3 stage, TNS equalised. Another close-range effort, as the reigning Dafabet Welsh Premier League champions, courtesy of Aeron Edwards, made it 1-1.

Six minutes later and Greg Draper put the visitors into the driving seat, with another goal from close-in, following good work down the right by Ryan Pryce.

The second-half was more of the same, as the game continued in its end-to-end mode. However it was TNS who made the most of the opportunities, when in the 50th minute, Adrian Cieslewicz sent a beautiful circling shot beyond the keeper’s reach and into the back of the net.

Continuing to battle away, the home side clawed a goal back as the game entered the final ten minutes, courtesy of Nick Rushton.

With four added minutes already into seconds remaining, a tremendous free-kick from Jamie Price saw the hosts not only snatch a very late equaliser, but also bring TNS’ incredible winning streak to an end.
