St. Mirren v The New Saints – Match Preview
On Sunday (February 19) we are again in action north of the English border, as we head to Paisley to take on Scottish Championship side, St. Mirren, in the semi-final of the Irn-Bru Cup.
Previously known as the Scottish Challenge Cup, a competition that goes back to 1990-1991, this season’s revamp has seen the inclusion of not only teams from the Highland and Lowland Leagues in Scotland, but also two representatives each from Northern Ireland and Wales.
Entering at round four, The New Saints came away from Forfar Athletic, the tier four leaders, with a convincing 3-1 win, courtesy of a Greg Draper hat-trick.
The quarter-final tie was again on the road, this time at League One leaders, Livingston. With many pundits predicting TNS would finally meet their match, we again defied popular opinion, as a 3-0 victory ensured that, alongside Dundee United, St. Mirren and Queen Of The South, Welsh representation continued in the competition.
Will the Welsh flag still be flying high after the weekend’s game? Well, that of course, remains to be seen. We do have a number of supporters who will be there at the game cheering us on and we fully appreciate their commitment. If you’re not there in person though, don’t miss out.
Kick-off is 4.10 p.m. and the game is live on BBC Alba and S4C. In addition, the latter will be streaming it live on their Facebook page. Plus, we will be bringing you commentary on TNS Radio as well as Twitter updates (@tnsfc). The link for TNS Radio will appear here on our site ahead of kick-off.
