The New Saints FC 2 Market Drayton FC 0

Yesterday evening, a young TNS side defeated Market Drayton FC  2-0 in the Shropshire Senior Cup quarter-final tie at Park Hall.

Several first-team squad players featured, notably experienced striker Greg Draper, but the overall average was just 17.5 years.

With nine 16-year-olds plus three other teenagers, the result shows the depth of quality at Park Hall.

However, it was Market Drayton who started the brightest, hitting the woodwork and forcing Andy Wycherley into a number of saves.

TNS grew into the game though and it was Jacob Farleigh who broke the deadlock, slotting home from a tight angle as the game passed the 1/3rd stage.

In the second period, chances fell to both teams but it was The New Saints who progressed into the semi-finals, courtesy of a Greg Draper goal.

With The first shot blocked, the New Zealand International made no mistake with the second as he beat the keeper from inside the box.

The semi-final will be against AFC Telford at Park Hall on Thursday July 20 with a 7.45 pm kick-off.
