Beginning his career as a youngster with Bolton Wanderers’ Academy, Josh Hmami crossed the Pennines where he spent a season with Barnsley FC’s Under-16 squad.
Then it was back to Lancashire, where a two-year scholarship with Accrington Stanley saw Josh go on to become the captain of the U-18s at The Club That Wouldn’t Die.
Training regularly with the first team and featuring in several behind-closed-doors friendlies, Hmami’s big break came in 2017. A belated Christmas present saw the then seventeen-year-old make his senior debut on December 30 against Grimsby Town.
While with Accrington he scored the only the only goal of the game, as his side beat Rochdale 1-0 in the FA Youth Cup.
He will wear the number 18 shirt.
