The New Saints Football Club visited the Derwen College on Wednesday.
The reigning Welsh Premier League Champions have re-established a fantastic link between themselves and the college.
The aim of this new initiative is to provide the students at the college, who currently play organised football, a chance to enhance their skills and opportunities, by playing and representing The Derwen College and The New Saints, in the North Wales Pan Disability Football League.
The Oswestry based club have provided the current college squad with an official first team kit and will also be providing coaching sessions, at Park Hall stadium. The Venue will become the home of the newly named football club, The Derwen New Saints (DNS).
General Manager of The New Saints, Ian Williams added that ‘The club are very excited and proud to re-establish the link with the Derwen. We are sure that the use of our facilities and our coaches will develop the skills of the students. The link also shows the huge strides we are making in the local community.’
Andrew Harris, Assistant Principal at Derwen said, ‘We really welcome this initiative and are delighted to have formed this exciting partnership with The New Saints. The students are thrilled with the new kits and the prospect of professional coaching.’
Derwen is one of the leading independent specialist colleges in the country and offers vocational education and training to young people, with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities.
