Darlington expects tough game

The New Saints face Carmarthen Town on Saturday, with only a win needed to secure back to back Welsh Premier League titles.

With the Oswestry based club currently 16 points ahead of second placed Airbus UK, Craig Harrison and his team know that three more points will clinch the title.

However, Carl Darlington has confessed that the game at Park Hall will be difficult, ‘Carmarthen Town have been our nemesis this season and Saturday’s game will be very difficult.’

The Old Gold defeated The Saints on their last visit to Oswestry and Darlington confirmed that the reigning champions must be wary of them, ‘We lost our last home encounter against Carmarthen but peppered their goal with 43 shots, compared to their four. However, they were clinical on the day. They have a very talented group of players who can hurt any team in the league.’

Since that game in November, Town have been unbeaten in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League, winning ten and drawing the other two.

TNS thrashed Bangor City 6-0 in their last home game and ‘Darlo’ was delighted with the result, ‘We produced a fantastic performance against Bangor and we restricted them to only having one shot on goal. The victory ensured that Bangor suffered their heaviest defeat in 12 years.’

Darlington, who has been with The Saints since May 2010, pointed out that, ‘Over the last six league games we have scored 22 goals and we have only conceded one. The goals that we have scored in the past six games have come from nine different players. We have scored the most goals in the League this season and we also have the best defensive record, having only conceded 18.’

With only five games to play and only one win needed, The New Saints have all but won their seventh Welsh Premier League title!
