Mike Wilde admitted that he was surprised to have picked up the Welsh Premier League player of the year award.
The talented striker returned to The Saints last summer and had no problem settling back in as he helped his side win the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League by a record margin. The former Fleetwood Town man said, ‘I was a little bit surprised. I was very pleased and very humbled because there were very good candidates, especially Andy Parkinson.’
Wilde confirmed that it was an honour to receive the award, ‘To win the award is an honour, especially after having a bit of a slow start before eventually picking it up. All in all it has been a very good comeback to the Welsh Premier League for me.’
The Birkenhead born Wilde, also praised the League and confirmed the quality has improved during the years he was away, ‘The standard is definitely different to when I left. I do see a massive improvement and the twelve teams competing have helped the league. The competition for the top spots has really intensified.’
