A brilliant brace from Ryan Kershaw gave the TNS Under 19’s all three points against a stubborn Newtown side.
On a cold and wet afternoon, Steve Evans’ Saints once again showed their great character to overcome a determined Newtown side.
TNS started on the front foot but with the pitch making it difficult, the visitors were unable to break the deadlock in the first half.
The Saints continued to search for the opening goal and with an hour played, Kershaw smashed his shot into the bottom corner, from the edge of the box.
TNS doubled their advantage with five minutes left through Kershaw, who finished superbly from inside the box to complete his brace and give his side a two goal advantage.
Gordon Evans was full of praise for his side and the assistant manager said, ‘It was fantastic to get both the performance and the win today. The lads showed a lot of character on a very testing pitch. The pleasing point for Steve and I was the fact that the lads never got frustrated after missing a lot of chances. They kept going and got what they deserved.’
The win has ensured that Steve Evans’s Saints are top of the league, with only nine games left to play.
The TNS line up consisted of Ryan Edkins, Ollie Beaman, Rhys Cooper, Aaron Simms, Jordan Wells, Ryan Kershaw, Jamie Hands, Fisnik Hajdari, Liam Walker (Harvey Holmes 65), James jones and Dylan Jones.
The unused substitutes were Stewart Evans, Mark Murch and George Mitten.
